Reading Challenge for the New Year

modernmrsdarcy2017

A couple of weeks ago, I was looking up possible reading challenges for 2017. I came across the 2017 Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge. As a booknerd, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to participate in this fun bookish adventure! If you sign up for this challenge, you will receive the 2017 MMD Reading Challenge kit that will help you plan and track your reading. It’s pretty neat!

Anne, resident blogger of Modern Mrs. Darcy, recently wrote an update about what she’s (probably) reading for the 2017 MMD Reading Challenge. This inspired me to share my own list. I want to be realistic when it comes to my reading goals for 2017 so I chose only one of the two challenges: Reading for Growth. Reading for fun is essential, but I always try to read out of my comfort zone when I do these reading challenges.

For my list, I included two titles per category. (I’m hoping to complete the challenge twice, but that’s probably wishful thinking.) I made sure that the books I chose for the reading challenge are books that I already own.

A Newbery Award winner or Honor book

A book in translation

A book that’s more than 600 pages

A book of poetry, a play, or an essay collection

A book of any genre that addresses current events

An immigrant story

A book published before you were born

Three books by the same author (Ransom Riggs)

A book by an #ownvoices or #diversebooks author

A book with an unreliable narrator or ambiguous ending

A book nominated for an award in 2017

A Pulitzer Prize or National Book Award winner

What are YOUR reading goals for 2017?
